Service crash via unchecked pointer dereference
Published Jan 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in GPAC 1.0.1 allows local users to crash MP4Box by supplying a crafted file to the -hint operation. Media_IsSelfContained follows an unchecked pointer chain derived from the file and reads through an invalid intermediate pointer, raising SIGSEGV. Triggering the crash requires a user to run MP4Box's -hint operation on the crafted file; the demonstrated consequence is process termination only.
