Crash via invalid pointer dereference
Published Jan 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Invalid pointer dereference in GPAC 1.0.1 allows local users to crash MP4Box while processing a crafted media file. The inplace_shift_moov_meta_offsets function dereferences an invalid pointer while shifting metadata offsets during file output, producing a segmentation fault. Reaching the flaw requires MP4Box to run its hinting operation on attacker-controlled input; the demonstrated consequence is limited to a process crash.
