SMM code execution via unchecked buffer pointer
Published Jan 5, 2022 · Updated Aug 11, 2026
Memory corruption in InsydeH2O IdeBusDxe allows local users to execute arbitrary code in System Management Mode through a crafted pointer. Its SWSMI handler insufficiently validates the allocated-buffer pointer stored at CommBuffer+4, allowing corruption of protected SMRAM. Exploitation requires the ability to run untrusted code with high local privileges; successful exploitation gains firmware-level SMM execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
