Client crash via packet-type misclassification
Published Dec 31, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap-based buffer overflow in wolfSSL wolfMQTT 1.9 allows local users to crash an MQTT client by supplying a crafted packet. MqttClient_WaitType incorrectly treats any two non-publish-response packet types as matching, so MqttDecode_Disconnect writes through an object intended for another packet type. Exploitation requires the client to process the packet while waiting for another non-publish-response packet, and the established consequence is a crash.
