Password guessing via uppercase password normalization
Published Apr 5, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper case handling in Softwarebüro Zauner ZA|ARC 4.2.0.4 allows remote attackers to guess passwords by testing only one letter case. The application uppercases user passwords before storing them in BENUTZER.PASSWORT and applies the same conversion to login input. The behavior affects application passwords but not TMPASSWORT; unauthenticated password guessing can recover access to the matched account.
