Application crash via invalid chunk-offset dereference
Published Jan 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Invalid memory dereference in GPAC 1.1.0 allows context-dependent attackers to crash MP4Box by processing a crafted media file. The shift_chunk_offsets function dereferences an invalid address while MP4Box rewrites chunk offsets during the -hint operation on malformed box structures. Exploitation requires a user or workflow to pass the crafted file to MP4Box; the demonstrated consequence is a segmentation fault that terminates the application.
