Memory exposure via uninitialized deserialization buffer
Published Dec 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Use of uninitialized memory in messagepack-rs 0.8.1 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to trigger undefined behavior. deserialize_string_primitive unsafely extends a newly allocated vector to its capacity, then passes the uninitialized buffer to a caller-supplied Read implementation. Exploitation requires a consuming application to deserialize attacker-controlled MessagePack data; published evidence establishes memory exposure and undefined behavior but no specific crash, disclosure, or code-execution outcome.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
