CVE-2021-45480

Local service interruption via unreleased RDS connection path

Published Dec 24, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

A memory leak in the Linux kernel RDS implementation before 5.15.11 allows local users to interrupt service through memory exhaustion. The __rds_conn_create() error path frees the connection object without releasing conn->c_path when loopback transport is preferred for a non-outgoing connection. A local low-privileged user must reach that RDS connection path; repeated failures consume kernel memory and can deny service.
