Stored script execution via unescaped item description
Published Dec 24, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in MediaWiki with Wikibase through 1.37 allows remote attackers to run script in a visitor's browser via an item description. InfoActionHookHandler returns the central description as raw page-information content without HTML escaping. Execution requires a visitor to open the affected item's action=info page, where the script runs with that site's browser origin.
