Unauthenticated command injection via branch name
Published Dec 6, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
OS command injection in Git-it through 4.4.0 allows remote attackers to execute commands via the Branches Aren’t Just For Birds verification step. During verification, the application appends the current branch name to a reflog command without sanitizing shell metacharacters, allowing attacker-controlled branch names to alter command execution. Exploitation requires a crafted repository or branch processed by the challenge; successful execution can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability with no authentication barrier.
