Denial of service via unchecked DSD sample count
Published Mar 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in WavPack 5.4.0 allows local users to crash the command-line encoder by processing a crafted DSD file. WavpackPackSamples in src/pack_utils.c trusts an oversized sample count from a DFF or DSF header, causing sptr to read past its heap buffer. Exploitation requires the command-line program to encode an attacker-supplied file; libwavpack is unaffected, and the bounded consequence is a process crash.
