Authenticated code execution via malicious pickle restore
Published Jan 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unsafe deserialization in motionEye 0.42.1 and earlier and motionEyeOS 20200606 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute code. The configuration-restore path accepts an uploaded backup containing tasks.pickle, writes it to disk, and later loads it with Python pickle without restricting object reconstruction. Administrative web access is required; loading the restored task data invokes attacker-controlled reduction code with the motionEye service account privileges.
