CVE-2021-44141Network attack vector

File existence disclosure via symlink error oracle

Published Feb 21, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Information disclosure in Samba before 4.15.5 allows remote authenticated users to test for files outside an exported share. SMB1 UNIX-extension information queries follow a server symlink and return distinguishable smbd error codes according to whether its external target exists. Exploitation requires SMB1 with UNIX extensions and permission to query the symlink; it reveals existence only and cannot read or modify the target.
