Remote code execution via article-preview XSS
Published Mar 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Textpattern 4.8.7 allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted article-preview link. The preview handler accepts the Body parameter from a GET URL and renders its HTML without neutralization, allowing injected JavaScript to read the session's static CSRF token and upload a PHP webshell. Exploitation requires an authenticated victim with plugin-upload privileges to follow the link; the resulting webshell executes operating-system commands on the server.
