Root command execution via unsanitized connection_type
Published Jun 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
OS command injection in setup.cgi on SerComm h500s firmware lowi-h500s-v3.4.22 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root. During diagnostic tracing, setup.cgi passes the connection_type value to a shell-capable command path without sanitizing special characters, so command substitution reaches the mini_httpd server process. Access requires a privileged device login and valid session and CSRF tokens; successful exploitation grants root-level control of the router.
