Remote code execution via single-quote shell injection
Published Nov 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Command injection in Wazuh 4.2.0 through 4.2.4 allows remote attackers to execute commands through crafted User-Agent log data. The wazuh-slack script embeds alert JSON, including the raw log line, inside a single-quoted curl command passed to system(), so an injected quote terminates the data argument and appends shell syntax. Exploitation requires the Slack active response to process an alert containing attacker-controlled log content; successful injection runs commands with the script's privileges.
