Service interruption via symbolic-link file overwrite
Published Jan 8, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Link following in Trend Micro Apex One 2019 and SaaS and Worry-Free Business Security 10.0 SP1 and Services allows local users to overwrite files. The Real-time Scan Service follows an attacker-created symbolic link while writing a file, redirecting its SYSTEM-context write to an arbitrary target. Exploitation requires low-privileged code execution on a Windows endpoint and can damage a target file sufficiently to interrupt the system.
