Arbitrary command execution via untrusted Git configuration
Published Dec 15, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Code execution in Visual Studio Code before 1.63.1 allows context-dependent attackers to run commands through a crafted Git folder. The built-in Git extension invokes Git before Workspace Trust approval, causing repository-local core.fsmonitor commands to execute. A target must obtain the folder outside a normal Git clone and open it; the command runs with the target user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
