Authenticated code execution via config path traversal
Published Apr 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in CMSimple 5.4's configuration editor allows remote authenticated users to execute code through a crafted functions_file value. The editor writes dot-dot segments from that setting into config.php, which then includes an attacker-selected PHP session file. Exploitation requires a valid CMSimple login and winning a race before PHP removes the uploaded session payload.
