Root command execution via unquoted firmware URL
Published Mar 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Command injection in TOTOLINK EX300_v2 4.0.3c.140_B20210429 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute commands as root. The forceugp update process reads the url value from /var/cloudupg.ini, formats it unquoted into a wget shell command, and passes it to system(). Exploitation requires interception of the device's HTTP firmware check and a crafted response that supplies shell metacharacters in the firmware URL.
