Kernel code execution via unchecked IOCTL copy size
Published Dec 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Buffer overflow in Amazon WorkSpaces agent before 1.0.1.1537 allows local users to execute kernel-mode code via a crafted I/O request packet. The wspvuhub.sys IOCTL 0x22001B handler allocates a pool buffer using one attacker-controlled size, then passes a separately controlled, unchecked size to memmove. Any local user able to open the driver device can trigger the overwrite without an enforced ACL, leading to privilege escalation or an operating-system crash.
