Unauthenticated account takeover via truncated reset token
Published Apr 8, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Weak password recovery in ATutor 2.2.4 allows remote attackers to reset account passwords through password_reminder.php requests. The endpoint derives a 15-hex-character SHA-1 token from a caller-supplied member ID and day value, then writes the submitted replacement password after comparing that truncated token. No authentication or user interaction is required; a successfully forged token changes the targeted account password and permits account takeover.
