Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Apr 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unquoted service path in Rumble Mail Server 0.51.3135 allows local users to execute code with elevated service privileges. The RumbleService ImagePath leaves a service executable path containing spaces unquoted, so Windows searches truncated path prefixes and runs an attacker-planted executable before the intended binary. A local user must be able to write a crafted executable to a searched prefix and wait for or trigger service startup; successful exploitation runs code under the service account.
