Local privilege escalation via writable temporary scripts
Published Dec 15, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect directory permissions in Automox Agent before 32 on Windows allow local users to execute code with elevated privileges. The agent creates a temporary execDir directory whose permissions let a low-privileged user alter a generated PowerShell script before the privileged service executes it. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and timing the modification while an agent task is present, resulting in code execution with the service's privileges.
