HTML file disclosure via help-path rewriting
Published Nov 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in Mahara before 20.04.5, 20.10.3, 21.04.2, and 21.10.0 allows local users to read restricted HTML help files. The page-help path handler replaces hyphens with slashes in attacker-controlled path components, allowing directory traversal around the intended file access check. Low-privileged local access is required, and the demonstrated consequence is limited to disclosure of HTML files reachable through the help-file lookup.
