Account takeover via stored XSS and CSRF
Published Dec 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting and CSRF in PHPGurukul Hostel Management System 2.1 allow remote attackers to take over accounts through the profile update endpoint. The profile update endpoint stores the name field without output encoding and accepts cross-site requests without an anti-CSRF token, allowing attacker-controlled script execution in a victim session. Exploitation requires a logged-in victim to submit the crafted profile request and load the resulting page; successful chaining can steal session cookies and hijack the account.
