Application crash via unchecked ASX stream parsing
Published Nov 1, 2021 · Updated Nov 18, 2024
Buffer overflow in Kodi 19.0 allows context-dependent attackers to crash the application by supplying a crafted ASX playlist file. CPlayListASX::LoadData passes the attacker-controlled stream directly to TinyXML through an extraction operator that performs no bounds checking. Opening or browsing to the malicious playlist requires user interaction and causes a hang or application crash.
