SYSTEM code execution via unsafe MSI repair
Published Jan 19, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Thales SafeNet Agent for RD Gateway before 2.0.4 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The Windows Installer repair path runs temporary files from the invoking user's TEMP directory under the Windows Installer service's SYSTEM context. Any authenticated local non-admin user who can invoke the cached MSI repair operation can gain temporary SYSTEM-level code execution.
