Denial of service in Ethereum Proof-of-Stake through 2021-10-19 allows attackers to delay consensus via short-range chain reorganizations. The fork-choice design overweights strategically withheld attestations, whose timed release tips honest validators toward competing chain views. A participating validator with stake and precise message timing can displace honest blocks, delay finality, and increase validator rewards.
