Remote service interruption via deeply nested JSON

Uncontrolled recursion in ModSecurity 2.8.0 through 2.9.4 and 3.0.0 through 3.0.5 allows remote attackers to interrupt web service. The request-body JSON parser processes attacker-controlled nesting tens of thousands of levels deep without an effective depth limit, monopolizing a web-server worker and nearly all CPU for minutes. The JSON parser must be enabled for a reachable endpoint, and concurrent crafted requests can prevent timely handling of legitimate traffic.
