SYSTEM escalation via writable TEMP repair files
Published Feb 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Splashtop Streamer for Windows before 3.5.0.0 allows local users to obtain SYSTEM privileges. A user-triggered MSI repair makes the Windows Installer service execute temporary files as SYSTEM from the invoking user's writable %TEMP% directory. Any authenticated local user can invoke the cached MSI repair, turning control of those files into full Windows host control.
