Document processor crash via stale word-list pointers
Published May 24, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Use-after-free in cleanup_index in Halibut 1.2 allows attackers to crash the document processor via a crafted text document. Frees in get_token leave stale word-list pointers that cleanup_index later sends through recursive free_word_list processing. A user must process the malicious file with --text; the demonstrated result is a segmentation fault, while other impact remains unspecified.
