User redirection via unchecked absolute URLs
Published Dec 19, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Open redirect in Oils JS 7.8.6 allows remote attackers to send users to untrusted sites through application redirects. In core/Web.js, the framework's Express response.redirect method accepts absolute URLs without comparing their origins against an allowlist. Exploitation requires an application route to pass attacker-influenced input to that method and a user to follow the crafted link, enabling phishing or credential capture on an attacker-controlled site.
