CVE-2021-42391Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated server crash via zero-byte Gorilla buffer

Published Mar 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Divide-by-zero in the Gorilla codec in ClickHouse before 21.10.2.15-stable allows remote authenticated users to crash the server. A crafted compressed query supplies zero as the buffer's bytes_size value, which becomes the divisor in an unchecked modulo operation. Any account with read permission can trigger the crash through the HTTP or native TCP interface, interrupting database service.
