Code execution via two-byte heap overwrite
Published May 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in SWFTools through 20201222 allows local users to execute code when a crafted SWF file is processed. The swf_FontExtract_DefineTextCallback() function in lib/modules/swftext.c performs a two-byte write beyond its allocated heap buffer while swfdump parses malformed font text data. A user must run swfdump on the attacker-supplied file; successful memory corruption permits code execution in that process.
