Root access via GTFO-bin and undisclosed escalation paths
Published Oct 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in VITEC Exterity IPTV products through 2021-04-30 allows remote attackers to gain root access over the network. The referenced disclosure states that one of three product-specific paths uses a simple GTFO-bin technique, but withholds the affected binary and the other two mechanisms. The demonstrated chain first obtained SSH or web access using default passwords, then used the flaws for full root control of the embedded Linux or CentOS system.
