Code execution via malformed scene file parsing
Published Dec 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Viewer before 2021.3.1 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code via scene files. The starview+.exe parser fails to validate user-supplied scene data and writes beyond the end of an allocated structure. Exploitation requires a user to open a malicious .sce file and can crash the viewer, execute code in its process, or extract host data.
