SMM code execution via unchecked service-table pointers
Published Feb 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 11, 2026
SMM callout in AhciBusDxe in Insyde InsydeH2O 5.0 through 5.5 allows local users with high privileges to execute code in SMM. AhciBusDxe registers an SWSMI handler that fails to validate EFI_BOOT_SERVICES and EFI_RUNTIME_SERVICES pointers, letting a caller redirect LocateHandleBuffer to attacker-controlled code. Administrative local access is required, and successful exploitation executes code in SMM beyond operating-system controls.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
