Application hang via unbounded regular-expression date parsing
Published Jan 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Regular-expression denial of service in Ruby date gem 3.2.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to hang applications via long date strings. Date.parse and related parsing methods apply vulnerable internal regular expressions to attacker-controlled strings without an input-length limit. An application must pass untrusted input to these methods; a crafted string can consume excessive processing time and stall the calling service.
