Queued job continues after permission loss
Published Oct 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect access control in the ReplaceText extension in MediaWiki through 1.41 allows remote authenticated users to continue replacement jobs after losing permission via queued jobs. ReplaceText enqueues one job per page and the worker does not re-check the submitting user's permission before execution, so blocking the user does not stop pending edits. Exploitation requires a user authorized to submit a replacement and a subsequent permission loss while jobs remain queued; impact includes unauthorized content and title modifications and possible service disruption from continued edits.
