Authentication bypass via missing access-token validation
Published Sep 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Authentication bypass in passport-oauth2 before 1.6.1 allows remote attackers to authenticate through a malformed OAuth token response. The OAuth2Strategy.authenticate token callback continues to profile loading when an HTTP 200 response omits accessToken instead of stopping the flow. Exploitation requires a noncompliant identity provider and an application that accepts authentication without using the token; the maintainer disputes that this is a library vulnerability.
