Local privilege escalation via DLL search path
Published Aug 8, 2023 · Updated Oct 11, 2024
DLL hijacking in Siemens Software Center before 3.0 allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges through a crafted DLL. The application searches a DLL path containing a directory where an attacker can place a malicious library, then loads that library instead of the intended DLL. A low-privileged local account is required, and successful hijacking runs the loaded code with the application's elevated privileges.
