CVE-2021-41413Public exploit

Memory corruption via late EXIF metadata

Published Jun 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Heap buffer overflow in ok-file-formats master 2021-9-12 allows context-dependent attackers to corrupt memory via a crafted JPEG file. The JPEG parser accepts EXIF APP1 metadata after SOF-based allocation, leaving grayscale and YCbCr-to-RGB conversion routines to write beyond the image buffer. Processing attacker-supplied JPEG content with a consuming application and user interaction reaches the writes, which can crash the process or corrupt its memory.
