Arbitrary code execution after local user interaction
Published Dec 15, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Remote code execution in Microsoft HEVC Video Extensions allows local users to execute arbitrary code after opening crafted HEVC media. Microsoft has not published the affected decoder routine, memory-safety condition, or other incorrect operation performed while parsing the media. Exploitation requires local user interaction, and successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code in the affected application's context.
