Unauthenticated API access via suffixed protected paths
Published Sep 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Authentication bypass in XSS Hunter Express before 2021-09-17 allows remote attackers to access protected API paths via crafted URLs. The API middleware compares each request path for exact equality with protected route names, so an added path suffix makes a protected route appear public while Express still routes the request. No credentials are required, but published sources do not identify which protected actions or data were demonstrated.
