Authenticated cluster-admin escalation via Secret-backed shell injection
Published Nov 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
OS command injection in Flux CD Kustomize Controller before 0.15.0 allows remote authenticated users to gain cluster-admin privileges. During reconciliation, the controller places a Secret-supplied service-account token into a shell command without neutralizing metacharacters, causing injected commands to run inside its container. The path is limited to multitenant clusters where a non-admin can create Secrets, ServiceAccounts, and Flux Kustomizations, and execution uses the controller's Service Account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
