Browser script execution via unescaped installer password
Published Oct 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Reflected XSS in Spotweb 1.5.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject script through the installer's newpassword1 field. The step-004.inc.php template applies htmlspecialchars without escaping single quotes, then embeds the value in a single-quoted HTML attribute. Exploitation requires a reachable installation wizard and a victim who submits attacker-controlled form data and interacts with the rendered field, executing script in that victim's browser.
