SYSTEM code execution via database data deserialization
Published Oct 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unsafe deserialization in Proofpoint Insider Threat Management Server before 7.11.2 allows attackers to execute code as SYSTEM. The Web Console unsafely deserializes data retrieved from the local database when a console user requests it. Database write access and a Web Console retrieval trigger are required; remote exploitation additionally requires a SQL injection chain and clicks on crafted URLs.
