Code execution via unchecked negative PPS index
Published Jan 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Buffer overflow in GPAC 1.0.1 and earlier allows attackers to crash MP4Box or execute code via a malformed MP4 file. The svc_parse_slice function checks a parsed picture parameter set identifier only against the upper bound before using it to index the avc->pps array. Exploitation requires MP4Box or another consuming GPAC application to parse the crafted file; the public reproducer demonstrates a segmentation fault, while the CVE record also identifies code execution and privilege escalation.
