CVE-2021-40489

SYSTEM code execution via storport integer overflow

Published Oct 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Integer overflow in storport.sys in Microsoft Windows allows local users to elevate privileges and execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM. The driver insufficiently validates user-supplied data, allowing an integer overflow before a memory write. Exploitation requires prior low-privileged code execution on the target, after which the attacker gains SYSTEM-level execution.
